APIARIES

BMH Website Apiaries (1).png

We have six main production apiaries within North Wales. Forest, Stream, Orchard, River, Valley and Moorland.

Each apiary produces a unique and distinctive honey and we track and trace each product from production colonies, through the extraction process in to each and every jar we produce.

Take a look at the differences between our apiaries and see if you can guess where your next jar of Black Mountain Honey comes from.

If you want to try a jar from a specific apiary, just let us know and we will pack it for you.

FOREST

Our base apiary is situated in the heart of the Black Mountain forest.  Set at over 900ft above sea level with magnificent views as far as the eye can see, the FOREST apiary produces an exquisite  blend of ling heather honey and really comes into action later in the season when the heather and rosebay willow herb are in full flower.

Forage: Ling Heather, Bramble, Rosebay Willow Herb, Dandelion, Cherry, Pear, Apple, Red Clover, White Clover, Pussy Willow, Horse Chestnut, Sycamore

STREAM

Situated  less than one mile outside the historic market town of Mold, our STREAM   apiary benefits from a much warmer climate than  our forest apiary as its over 700ft lower in altitude. The bees gather copious amounts of nectar from a   profusion of Himalayan Balsam, ancient hedgerows   and lime trees that are over 200 years old.

ORCHARD

Situated within a magnificent  farming estate, the  ORCHARD apiary really is the bees knees. A fully functioning orchard, producing delicious fruit and vegetables for the local community. Our bees thrive here very early in the year due the excessive amount of blossom bearing trees. The resulting honey is sweet, delicate and incredibly floral.

Forage: Pear, Plum, Apple, Cherry, Raspberry, Blackcurrant, Blackberry, Blueberry, Dandelion, Lime, Pumpkin, Willow, Hawthorn, Thyme, Marjoram, Rosemary, Red Clover, White Clover, Horse Chestnut, Sycamore

VALLEY

Our VALLEY apiary is  one our favourite places to be on a mild spring morning. It benefits from its very own micro climate due to the topography of the site.  Its wonderfully sheltered position means that forage is often  more advanced than other areas. It benefits from access to early pussy willow so the bees always get off to a terrific start in the year.

Forage: Bramble, Rosebay Willow Herb, Dandelion, Lime, Willow, Hawthorn, Lavender, Red Clover, White Clover, Horse Chestnut, Sycamore
